RE: Home Emergency Generator Question

Sad to say but I am dealing with an old man down here. He has all kinds of money but will not spend it on new equipment. I have spent well over the price of a good used truck. Trying to get his old junker in shape to pass state inspection. I have pleaded with him to buy a new truck, but he says they want to much money. The really sad part is that I will have more money in it than a new truck will cost before I am through with it.

RE: Kohler Generator prob

I would pull the fuel pump and have it checked. If it leaks at the shaft seal it will dump fuel into the oil. I have had four do this over thr years.

RE: Kohler Generator prob

I have seen sticking injector nozzles and also the rack on the injector stick. You might want to take off the valve covers. Remove the rack pin and operate the rack by hand and make sure all injector rack arms are working. Also if you need a regulator I have one that I will send you. Just to get rid of it. It is used but still good.

RE: Kohler Generator prob

I have had some injector nozzles stick open. You might need to pull yours and have them checked. I also had a problem with one of the rack pins coming loose. On the 8V92.

RE: Onan QD 7500 shut down

Are you sure the fan is turning. Onan had some problems with belts breaking. It may also be a bad low coolant sensor.

RE: Quietpact 55LP generator

Yes they do have a large market share because you can by them cheaply. Then they get you on the price of parts. And try to get someone to work on them.

RE: Quietpact 55LP generator

As a matter of fact I have twenty seven years working on them. Some of their units are great and very good units. Some are complete junk. The factory is of no help at all unless you are a dealer for them. And even then you may have trouble getting help. Fire station three in Frisco Texas has a generac unit. That has been having false oil shutdown problems since it was installed. Generac solution was keep putting sending units on it until the problem stops. I did an install for ATT because the local dealer refused because he did not sell it. Generac found out and voided the warranty, and on top of that they wanted ATT to pay for shipping from New Mexico to Texas. It was supposed to be shipped to Texas in the first place. Station five in Carrollton has one that will come on for no reason and no one has figured that one out yet.Plano has one that will or will not start we called it the maybe unit. There prices are out of site.Try 140.00 for a fuel filter because generac will not sell just the element. There is a hospital at Wheatland road and 67 with a one meg generac it is also a maybe start genset. I was at a nursing home in Glen Rose that has a 10KW generac. Storms in town power up and down. Called Generac with some questions about there controler. Told them were I was and the problem I was having, they ask me if I was a dealer. Told them no and they hung up on me. So yes I know what Iam talking about.

RE: Kohler Confidant 5

The best I can remember they were pretty quiet units. Very smooth running unit.Yours may need the carb cleaned. If it still has the OEM plug wires on it get rid of them. I know Kohler had a problem with plug wires at one time. I changed several and had no more problems. Get them at any auto store. 1800 RPM unit

RE: Onan gas model 5.5 generator problem - any ideas??

One thing wrong with that Onan techs story. No RV that I know of will allow the two powers to be on line at the same time. Most have a timer and a transfer switch that will let genset build up to proper voltage before it will take over. Some RVs you have to manually switch from shore to genset plug in. Now yes starting and stopping a genset under load will cause damage. So you should let it warm up before you turn your load on if you do not have a timer. When stopping take the load off first and let in run a little before you shut it off. Just a little advise from a generator tech of forty years.:W

RE: Onan gas model 5.5 generator problem - any ideas??

Hate to disagree. But if you have a backfeed while plugged into shore power. It will destroy more than just a regulator.

RE: 1984 Ford 460 Water Pump Leak-On Edit: Embarrassing find

Don't feel bad we have all done that. I worked on a clutch that was hard to engage. Spent two hours on it then noticed the floor mat stuck up under the pedal.

RE: Generator voltage varying with no load?

Unless someone added something this unit has no control module. All relay system. Voltage is set by engine speed. Is the engine speed steady. If it is you need to check the brushes. They should be free and making good contact with the slip rings.Should move in the guides without sticking.

RE: Onan 4.0 update to no fuel code

If you have a gummed up carb. Onan will not replace it under warranty. Unless they have changed the rules.

Have you tried the Onan site at Funroads.com. Also try perr.com. I think NAPA should be able to help.
